I hope your have enjoyed your stay at our apartment. In order to facilitate the transition to your new place, I have put together this move-out checklist. Please print this for use after your internet has been disconnected.
1) Please keep TMLG apprised of your move out plans and progress. Please vacate the apartment as early as possible on move out day. Remember that the apartment must be ready for another tenant to move into within a day or two of your departure -- including the next day.
2) If you would like to move out a few days early, you can usually get a refund for prorated rent paid -- check with TMLG.
3) If you are going to need a rental moving truck or trailer, remember to reserve early. During Tallahassee's moving season, around August 1, rentals become very difficult to find.
4) Several days prior to moving out, please change your address with the US Postal Service. This can be done online at www.usps.com under Quick Tools | Change of Address.
5) Please coordinate with TMLG on having your City utilities disconnected. Please plan to have them remain on until after the end of the month you are leaving so that carpet cleaning and minor repairs can be accomplished. For example, if you are planning to move out on July 25, please do not have the City utilities disconnected before August 1. Phone and Internet services may be disconnected at any time.
6) Please remove all trash and debris from the apartment and put it inside the trash cans or dumpster.
7) Please clean the bathroom and kitchen so that they will be ready for the next tenant.
8) Please vacuum the floors and carpets but do not attempt to otherwise clean the carpets. If you have a cat, please take extra care that all areas around litter boxes are cleaned and that all litter box elements are removed and placed inside the trash cans or dumpster. Seventy-five dollars of your damage deposit is for the cleaning of all rugs and carpets (per your lease agreement). If you think your pet may have left fleas or flea eggs in the apartment, please let TMLG know so that appropriate measures can be taken.
9) Please do not remove picture hangers or nails from the walls, or attempt any repairs to walls or woodwork, including painting. Incorrect wall patches can result in more extensive repairs. Nail holes and similar wall blemishes will not effect the return of your damage deposit.
10) If you have furniture or appliances that are useful but no longer needed, please donate them to charity. Do not place unwanted items near the trash cans or dumpster in hopes the garbage folks will take them -- they won't.
11) If you have furniture or small appliance that are broken and not repairable, they should be placed inside the dumpster. The garbage truck will not remove items placed near but not inside the trash cans or the dumpster.
12) If there are any repairs or maintenance items that need to be taken care of, please let TMLG know immediately.
13) Please leave your door keys on your stovetop -- especially your mailbox key (if applicable) -- and a forwarding address on the stovetop or in the drop box for your damage deposit return, which will occur within two weeks of your leaving.
14) Traffic and parking around the apartments on moving days can become quite congested with trucks, trailers, and moving helpers, so please be careful, and respectful of others.
15) If you have any questions or experience any difficulty in your move, please call TMLG immediately.
Thanks,
Bill Brandt
